Iterate, iterate, iterate

Working on a product means constantly evolving and questioning what can be improved as the business and user needs grow. The onboarding dashboard at Swell was functional but lacked appeal for new users. The outdated design, cluttered with too many buttons and actions, left users overwhelmed and uncertain about where to start.

The solution

The challenge was to create a more engaging, clear, and less overwhelming experience for users who had just purchased the product. The first step was to focus on giving users a sense of accomplishment—similar to the satisfaction of checking off items on a to-do list. This approach leveraged the psychology of positive reinforcement to associate the platform with a rewarding experience.

The next step was to reorganize the page, separating actionable tasks from helpful links. By grouping related items and creating a more structured layout, the design reduced cognitive load and made the onboarding process feel more intuitive. This was essentially about tidying up—simplifying the experience to foster a stronger connection between users and the platform.
This redesign transformed the onboarding dashboard into a welcoming, user-friendly experience, setting a positive tone for new users’ journeys with the product.
